Understanding the condition
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) helps stabilize the knee. An ACL injury can occur during pivoting, stopping, or landing. Other knee structures may also be injured.
Symptoms to discuss
- A pop or sudden pain during an injury
- Swelling after an injury
- A feeling that the knee gives way
These symptoms can have more than one cause. They do not confirm a diagnosis.
How treatment is approached
An examination and, when appropriate, imaging help define the injury. Rehabilitation is an important part of care. Some patients can manage with non-surgical treatment; others may consider reconstruction based on instability, associated injuries, and activity needs.
Your visit with Dr. Carlson
Tell us when your symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, and how they affect your daily life. Bring any X-rays, MRIs, or other imaging you already have, any written reports, and a list of treatments you have already tried. Imaging may be done during your first appointment if needed.
Dr. Carlson can discuss the examination findings, whether additional studies may be helpful, and a care plan that reflects your goals. Call 801-640-0000 to confirm scheduling and your Ridgeline appointment location.
